The upgraded bedrooms very nice and well equipped.
It is in need of a reburbishment. The hotel has a lot of areas with dampness especially on the stairs and corridors.
Have been going to Columba hotel for over twenty years for short weekend breaks. Quaint old charm about the place with good harbour views. Breakfast excellent!
Bedrooms recently refurbished but beds sagging and pillows flat as pancakes! Lounge bar not attractive or very inspiring - looks more like a kitchen rather than s warm friendly bar! Harbour bar attached is awful! Good for budget weekend away tho!
Harbour location and with the town (restaurants, shops etc) very close by. Public car park adjoining (but note charge of 80 pence per hour from 0900 to 1800 each day) The hotel provided one nights accommodation for our family group in a basic but clean room for two adults and one child. The bathroom had a good power shower and the hot buffet breakfast was acceptable. The staff we encountered were pleasant enough.
If you are looking for a smart, swish and up market hotel, do not stay here. It is not luxurious in any shape or form, and the decor and furnishings are extremely faded and worn. The catering provison is basic.
I liked this hotel as it was in the centre, handy for shopping and the vew from the room was excellent. I felt relaxed at this hotel.
Good location.to the local amenities and the seaside..Good food and friendly staff.
My only problem was the lift.We were on the 3rd floor walking diem was fine but would not like to have to walk up.Also lift was very small.Enough room for 2 people if u had cases.
The location was excellent and the rooms were quite large
The food was appalling - really dreadful. The breakfasts were dried up, they did not bring fresh food from time to time like normal hotels do, everything was left out for hours, the eggs were hard and powdery, the bacon was impossible to cut. On the 2nd day we tried going earlier but it was the same, like they were left over from yesterday. We were also unfortunate enough to have dinner there before we saw the breakfasts - I had 'beer battered haddock' which was supposedly 'freshly caught'. It tasted fowl, the batter was soft so after one mouthful I removed the batter and tried the fish on its own. It had gone off, it was grey, I doubt it had ever been a haddock as such but whatever fish it was it had been caught a long time ago, probably spent time in a freezer and then been left out after that. It also had bones in. It was disgusting. My husband's steak was leathery and definitely not fresh. My daughter's steak pie was probably out of a tin, that's what it looked and tasted like. The girls who were acting as 'waitresses' had clearly not been trained. One was unable to take our order in less than 10 minutes which was the time it took to write it down after constantly having to repeat each word several times. This particular girl is apparently married to the 'chef'. Mostly the waitresses were noticeable by their absence. They were abrupt and when they were there they stood around talking about the customers. Certainly no one around at breakfast time to ask for something a bit fresher. When I complained about the breakfast on leaving, the woman on the desk said well she knew what I meant about the eggs but if it had been her she would have asked for a fresh egg. But who to ask? And would it do any good? Either someone is deliberately trying to close down this hotel by getting rid of all customers, or the management is seriously incompetent. If the manager reads this, please go and try the breakfast for yourself. Then sack the chef, get a real one and train your...
Location and views, had a lovely stay.
I loved the location of the Columba Hotel. The staff where lovely and friendly and very helpful. Our room was lovely and looked recently decorated also there was complaints on Booked.net about the rooms being cold but I did,nt find this at all the room was cosy and aslo had a super heated towel rail in the bathroom. The Breakfast in the morning was great something there for everyone also the cooked breakfast was delicious. I certainly would go back to this hotel
There is,nt a lot of free parking at the hotel itself not unless you pay at the meters which can be expensive
Staff at the hotel were a credit, they could do enough for us to make our stay pleasant and we would most certainly return to the Columba Hotel again. Well done 10 out of 10,
Hotel on a whole nice, we didn't eat evening meal but the breakfast service was excellent food, presentation & service.
The floor in our room was not hoovered very well-215. As I was accompanied by a 1yr old this was well spotted. Also parking was a problem and again made tougher by travelling as single parent with 1yr old. None of hotel spaces were free & we had to sit and wait for free space elsewhere with more than one trip for luggage required.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help and this included the restaurant staff. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of food. We would certainly return at a future date.
A bit of a cranky lift but it worked.
It's location was perfect
Fairly crowded w tour bus groups. Wifi didn't function. Restroom very tiny w minimal water pressure in shower.
Great hotel. We stayed for a long weekend and this was in the perfect location. Clean, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast and good staff. Hot water plentiful for baths and showers.
Comfortable and very easy access from town centre. Nice views from room.
Room was warm, clean and comfortable. Though the bathroom probably could have done with updating. The staff were all very friendly. Breakfast choice was excellent.
